Does Jeff take payments?

Under the bankruptcy code attorneys are discharged just like credit cards and other bills.  Since we file cases every week we cannot take payments without violating the bankruptcy code.  Also, attorneys who accept payments spend a lot of time pursuing their own clients for fees before they finally file the case.  Jeff would rather spend all of his time getting cases ready to file and no time harassing his own clients.  So we must be paid up front.  Many clients borrow from family which is fine as long as you intend to repay them.

How do people who are broke afford bankruptcy?

Some of my clients stop making payments on dischargeable debt like credit cards and medical until they have accumulated their fees.  Others borrow money from friends or family which is permitted as long as you do intend to repay it.  It is improper to use a credit card cash advance since the account will close upon filing and you cannot pay it back

Do you accept checks?

No, we accept cash or money order but no personal checks.  We tried that but it did not work.
